On May 2nd, Dax went under general anesthesia for a hypospadius repair. We were a little nervous for him but knew he was in good hands and that God would take care of him. All the nurses said he was so cute and such a good baby, and he really was!
We were expecting him to cry the whole morning because he wasn't able to eat anything after 1am, and he was used to eating at 3 and 5am. The surgery was at 7.
He stayed asleep as we drove to the hospital, and while we waited and did paperwork! Then Matt woke him up when they needed to do measurements, etc, and he still didn't cry! Amazing! And I was hiding the whole time because I thought if he saw me he would cry and want to eat. But he did great the whole time, even when they pushed him away to the OR. The nurses said he was so cute lying on his stomach on the bed, looking around and smiling at everyone as they pushed him away. I amlost cried at that moment, thinking about how happy he was, yet having no idea what they were about to do to him and how much pain he will be in later!

They gave him this mommy and baby bunny as a gift from the hospital I guess. He still sleeps with it in his bed today :)
When he got out of surgery they immediately let us hold him because he was crying. I fed him right away and was able to calm him down. After that he cried on and off and finally fell asleep in Daddy's arms. Every time they needed to put him back in the bed to check something he would cry again until we picked him up. The doctors said it was from the anesthesia, and that he wasn't in pain. It was so sad to see him uncomfortable though. He still had the IV and his arm was in a splint. And he had 2 diapers on which we were trying not to put pressure on. Hopefully we did a good job!
After surgery the doctor had him on Tylenol with Codeine, Motrin, an antibiotic, and a bladder medicine to keep his bladder from having spasms. He had a catheter for 1 week which apparently causes bladder spasms and pain. He mostly slept in the swing for the first few days and nights.
After a couple days Dax became constipated form the medicine so we had to stop the Tylenol with Codeine, and once we did that he was in a lot more pain. So he didn't get much sleep for a couple days. After the doctor removed the catheter, it seemed that all his pain went away. We took him off all the meds and he was back to normal. Now he is totally healed and we will have his follow-up appt on June 23rd!
